CLUB POLICIES
Give 21 OTHERS a good days cricket, strive for all round excellence in the true spirit of the game.
Make the day a celebration, a spectacle worthy of the stage and share all thats best in cricket with as many people as possible.
Let the bat and ball do the talking and peace reign on the field, out of respect to team mates and our opponents
Socialize with the opposition. Encourage youth and new players to the game getting all in the game.
Help out with all duties (find out what job you can be doing when not playing)
Train VICE CAPTAINS.Successful Vice Captains will train on to Captaincy.Player of the season awards will reflect performance of all activities
VICE CAPTAIN
This person is key in club
cricket and is answerable for a successful days play being responsible for the
match days organization and outcome.
They must see that all club guidelines and ethos are followed by assisting the captain in all duties.They are responsible for all kit and financial aspects of the day
Duties
Arrive early, greet opposition and show to changing rooms
They deliver tea things to ground and must organize tea ,give tea numbers
to Tea person (away matches) .
Ensure kit bag, 2 chairs, umpires coats , scorebook and score board is ready, organize fielding practice
Congratulate /commiserate with departing batsman, and captain at end of game
Help maintain peace on the field.Rotate umpires and scorers during the game
Check kit back into bag, see score book is copied up
Make sure
nobody is showering , playing football etc,
before the end of the match (too much work to do)
Collect subs, if subs are short , they must make up the shortfall, if kit goes missing they must pay for new
Ensure kit is safely taken to someone’s house or passed to next weeks vice captain
Report to the captain on any relevant issues.
Organize jug at away games, drink for Captain at home,socialize with opposition(not just our team)
CAPTAIN
Agree time of game with opposition, no limited over wides(4 or 5 for boundaries).Set time for 20 overs
Discuss strength of teams and agree on toss decision(stronger batters should bat first)
If you bowl first, tea will be when the batters decide(and discuss if batting on would make for a better game..its got to be better than a beer match)
keep ALL get in the game, RELIEVE umpires regularly
APPEALS POLICY: Bowler & keeper appeals for LBW, keeper appeals for stumped or caught behind.Out fielders appeal for their catch , REST maintain quiet
1 appeal ONLY, modest celebrations on successful decision (REMEMBER you just ruined a blokes weekend).
Dissension is an OFFENCE, RESTART game
QUICKLY after NOT OUT decision
Agree LBW criteria generally accepted UMPIRING decisions: Noises with no deflection are generally NOT OUT (a ball in the air can make a noise, as can bat on pad)
Front foot forward and hit on pad is rarely given out, hit on boot means the ball has not pitched so should be given not out.
When Batting:Set
batting ORDER to inflict most damage on opposition whilst getting all in the game.
INSTRUCT batsmen of required run rate advise on pitch and technique.
Easy to work format: 1,2 opening,3,4,5 padded up,6,7 umpiring 8/9
doing score books(avoids errors)
10 bowling to
next man in, 11 general duties (do score board, organizing drinks, running out
with replacement equipment etc)
INCREMENT at fall of each wicket eg 8 changes with 6,10 with 8,11
with 10 and 1 comes off , removes pads etc and takes over from 11
When fielding:Maintain
reasonable noise levels on the field all verbal encouragement comes from
the captain to the bowler
Captain occupies MID OFF , READ pitch, batsmen(spot his weakness).
INSTRUCT and discuss with bowler, ball by ball on how to remove batsman.Keep eye contact with fielders for field placing.
