A strong Old Ruts side won the toss and made first use of a good batting wicket.
Jack, Robin, Nabil and Adil kept things quiet through the first twenty overs but
only one wicket fell. Ali then swapped the keepers pads with Rehal and produced
a superb tight spell of bowling and picked up three wickets. However Old Ruts
had big hitters down the order and they made the difference, hitting Robin for
three sixes in the final over.

In reply St James’ kept the runs flowing but sadly wickets fell as quickly.
Early season rust was in evidence as no one was able to stay in and build
partnerships. Nabil was the pick of the batsmen reeling off some beautiful
square cuts before playing one too many. Robin and Dave were together as the
last twenty overs began but both got them selves out and the innings fell away.

But despite some familiar failings there was encouraging news for the team. The
fielding was much better than it has been with Adil immaculate in the covers and
Jack impressive in the outfield. It seemed that team spirit was also better
which is a positive sign for the rest of the season.  Reserve your place in
